Iran too strong for Saudi Arabia at 2023 FIBA U16 Asian Championship
TEHRAN - After suffering a tough loss to Japan, Iran bounced back for a resounding 106-45 win over Saudi Arabia in the second gameday of the 2023 FIBA U16 Asian Championship.
For Iran, Sina Mohammadi led the team in scoring with 23 points on 10-13 shooting while Mohammad Mahde Jalali led with 15 rebounds. They never trailed in this game and led for all but the first 15 seconds of the game while shooting nearly 60 percent from the field.
Iran will meet hosts Qatar in Group B on Tuesday.
Hamed Haddadi was also in attendance to support the young national team players.
The Iranian legend had previously announced his retirement from national team duties at the end of the recent FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
The top teams of four groups at the end of the Group Phase will qualify directly for the Quarter-Finals. The second and third-place teams will play in the Qualification to the Quarter-Finals Round with teams in Group A playing against teams in Group B while teams in Group C play against teams in Group D.
The teams that advance to the Semi-Finals will also qualify for the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024 to be held in Turkey from June 29 to July 7 next year.
